Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement today after the Senate confirmed Mayor Julián Castro as the next Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) by a vote of 71 to 26. Earlier this week, Senator Reid met with Secretary Castro to discuss ways in which HUD can help Nevada families hit hardest by the housing crisis:

"I am pleased the Senate confirmed Julián Castro to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Julián worked hard as Mayor of San Antonio, Texas, to improve the lives of those he served. I look forward to him putting those talents toward improving the lives of Nevadans and all Americans. Secretary Castro understands the challenges faced by our middle class. His experience and leadership will ensure that Nevada's economy and housing sector continue to recover and grow. I look forward to working with Secretary Castro to continue to provide housing assistance to those who need it, and wish him success in his new role."
