As the father of a daughter with epilepsy, finding ways to promote access to quality, affordable health care is one of my top priorities.

Plain and simple, no is not an option when it comes to fixing our broken health insurance system. Millions of people have or know someone who cannot afford or who has been denied health care coverage because of a pre-existing condition. This is not acceptable, it is immoral, and I believe it is unconstitutional. That is why I supported changes to our health insurance system.

With these recent changes, it is no longer acceptable for insurance companies to deny coverage to people who have pre-existing illnesses, and I will continue fighting against this kind of discrimination.

Health care is an issue that touches many people in different ways, and we have to move forward with finding ways to lower the cost of health care so more people can get the kind of compassionate, quality care they deserve.

I am committed to working with all stakeholders including small businesses, medical providers, individuals, and employers to ensure comprehensive measures promoting healthy lifestyles which will enable us to take personal responsibility for our own wellness in affordable ways.

Additionally, I will continue to support stem cell research because this research provides the greatest promise we have to find a cure for medical conditions such as epilepsy, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and diabetes. I feel it is government's responsibility to invest in research that could save millions of lives. Nearly everybody has a family member, a friend or colleague who could benefit from stem cell research.
