Issue Position: Preparing Our Children for That Future

Issue Position

As your Congressman, I will take this fight to the national level to ensure that our grade school students are better represented. I will also continue to do all that I can to ensure that students have greater access to higher education.

The debate raging around our current education system is a clear example of what can happen when our government gets too big. While some of the goals of the national Common Core movement are laudable, the implementation has been nothing short of reckless.

As State Senator, I have been vocal about my concerns with the implementation of the system and remain active in the efforts to shine more light on the problems with the Common Core model. The federal government used financial incentives to reel in cash-strapped states to adopt an out-of-touch program. Curriculum, standards and testing are far from being synched up appropriately, and the students are trapped in the middle. Meanwhile, parental control over their child's data is being compromised by bureaucrats lacking any respect for privacy rights.

As your Congressman, I will take this fight to the national level to ensure that our grade school students are better represented. I will also continue to do all that I can to ensure that students have greater access to higher education.
