Walsh Announces Committee Approval of Dillon-Area Water Service

Senator John Walsh today released the following statement after the Senate Energy and National Resources Committee passed a 6-year extension of the East Bench Irrigation District water contract.

"This bill protects the interests of farmers and ranchers who count on a stable water supply to grow their crops and feed their cattle," Walsh said. "I appreciate the committee's action to provide certainty for Montana farmers and ranchers and I will keep fighting for this important legislation until it is signed into law."

The East Bench Irrigation District supplies water to farmers and ranchers in southwest Montana. The contract was last renewed in 2012. Congress has acted to renew the contract while water rights are adjudicated in Montana state water court.
