Congressman Lowenthal Welcomes President Obama to 47th District

Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) today welcomed President Barack Obama to Southern California and the 47th District. The Congressman greeted the President and First Lady Michelle Obama when they arrived aboard Air Force One at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos. The President is visiting Southern California to deliver the commencement address to the University of California, Irvine, Class of 2014 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

The Congressman issued the following statement regarding the President's visit:

"It is an incredible honor for someone like me to represent this district in Congress and to welcome the President of the United States to Southern California.

"I am thrilled that the President chose to speak at the University of Irvine commencement to not only congratulate and encourage the Class of 2014 graduates, but also to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the university's dedication in 1964. In his speech at the dedication, President Lyndon B. Johnson praised the ability of Californians to translate "good words into good deeds." I want to thank the President for coming to Southern California to make it clear that this remains true to this day."
