Healthcare

There are few things in this country that government can do better than the private sector, and healthcare is not one of those things.

The costs associated with creating government programs to manage healthcare actually drain dollars away that could be better utilized in taking care of patients. One of the most vital elements in healthcare is to make sure the system is as efficient and effective as possible, and I think we can all agree that government is rarely efficient.

I believe that healthcare decisions cannot and should not be left in the hands of nameless, faceless government bureaucrats. We should be able to choose our own health coverage, doctors and treatments as we see fit because, ultimately, healthcare decisions are personal. Nothing is as personal as when you or a loved one needs medical care, and you are wondering, "Do I have the right insurance?" or "Can I afford the co-pay or the deductible?" That's why everything that government touches in healthcare needs to keep that doctor/patient relationship intact so that the patient can personally make the decisions that affect their health.

All Arizonans deserve access to affordable healthcare, but ultimately, providing for one's own medical needs is a personal responsibility. Improving efficiency and eliminating waste can help reign in skyrocketing healthcare costs, but we must do more to encourage citizens to make commonsense health choices that don't burden taxpayers. We have to find a way to provide affordability that does not saddle the next generation with an unsustainable system.
