Congressman Xavier Becerra on Two Year Anniversary of DACA Announcement

Statement

Date: June 13, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement marking the two-year anniversary of when the Obama Administration announced it would provide relief from deportation for young immigrants under the program Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) which is on June 15th:

"Two years ago, in response to Congressional gridlock and inaction, President Obama used his executive authority to provide thousands of young aspiring Americans with the opportunity to fully contribute to the only country they've called home. Two years later, this Republican-led House of Representatives has refused to build upon President Obama's improvements to our broken immigration system and repeatedly blocked votes on bipartisan comprehensive reforms to secure our borders, protect our workers, unite families and offering hard working immigrants an earned pathway to citizenship.

"As I've said before, immigration reform is a matter of when, not if. But every day that the Republican leadership ignores this issue and the will of the people, thousands of aspiring Americans are ripped away from their families, friends and communities they contribute so much to. Enough of the excuses. The time to act is now."
