Scalise Slams Administration Doublespeak on Energy

Statement

Location: Metairie, LA

U.S. Representative Steve Scalise today issued the following statement regarding U.S. Department of Energy Ernest Moniz's tour of Port Fourchon. Secretary Moniz is in Louisiana for a regional stakeholder meeting focused on energy infrastructure needs and job creation in the Gulf of Mexico oil and gas industry as a part of the Quadrennial Energy Review.

"I find it ironic that Secretary Moniz is here in South Louisiana promoting energy job creation, yet the Administration has fought against expanding offshore drilling and has failed to implement consistent policies that provide long-term certainty for companies operating in the Gulf," said Scalise, Vice Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power. "When it comes to American energy policy, the Obama Administration's doublespeak knows no bounds. Mr. Moniz's own agency confirms that energy production on federal lands is down more than 15 percent. The Department of Interior has been promising a rule on blowout preventers for over two years, yet they've failed to meet their own deadline. Keystone XL is now the most studied pipeline in our nation's history, yet President Obama refuses to say yes to this important project that his State Department has concluded will create over 40,000 job. While the Obama Administration likes to talk the talk, they seem to always come up short when it comes to walking the walk. Americans and the people of Southeast Louisiana deserve better."
