Congressman Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) released the following statement praising the passage of the VA Management Accountability Act in the House. Neugebauer is a cosponsor of the bill, which passed the House with broad bipartisan support by a vote of 390-33.

"Our nation's veterans have sacrificed to keep America safe, and we owe them not only our deepest gratitude, but the best care we can provide," Neugebauer said. "When there are reports of misconduct at the VA, it's not just paperwork - these are real lives on the line, of Americans who faithfully served this nation with honor and dignity."

The VA Management and Accountability Act responds to allegations of mismanagement and lack of accountability of the VA by allowing the Veterans Affairs Department to fire or demote senior executive employees more easily based on inadequate job performance.

"As a Member of Congress, it's my job to provide oversight of the Executive Branch, including the VA, and I am committed to making the necessary reforms to the VA system to ensure we're always providing the best possible care for our veterans."

Neugebauer continued, "We need immediate action by the Obama Administration to stop this mismanagement before more veterans' lives are put at risk. They deserve better, and I'll continue fighting to get answers and action."

Today's vote comes a week after Neugebauer and 23 other Texas Members wrote the Inspector General calling for an investigation into allegations of fraud by Veterans Affairs officials in Central Texas.
