Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) today issued the following statement regarding the release of the VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) interim report and calling on Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki to resign.

"With the release of the VA OIG interim report, I am appalled at the treatment of the veterans at the Phoenix VA. It is beyond comprehension that Phoenix VA senior hospital employees would intentionally cook the books so that they could be financially rewarded at the expense of our nation's veterans. Regardless of his years of honorable service, it is clear the American people have lost trust in General Shinseki and I believe he should resign. It is time for new leadership at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
"I was a cosponsor of H.R. 4301, which was approved by the House last week to hold senior officials at the Department of Veterans Affairs accountable and protect our veterans from mismanagement. This was a good first step, but I will continue to work with my colleagues to get to the bottom of these findings and to see that those responsible for these atrocities are punished for their actions. I will also continue to work with my colleagues on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee to see how veterans in Tennessee have been affected."
