Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Environment

Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) today welcomed news that the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress (WCC) will be held in Hawai"i in 2016. The WCC takes place every four years and aims to improve the management of the world's natural environment for human, social, and economic development. In its 65-year history, the WCC has never been held in the United States.

"The IUCN World Conservation Congress is an opportunity for Hawai"i to showcase local efforts to conserve our precious, limited natural resources and to promote sustainable practices," said Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. "I'm proud to have been an early supporter of Hawai"i's bid, and I am thrilled that the State Department decided in our favor to support the WCC in Hawai"i. As the world's largest and most important conservation event, the WCC will shine a positive spotlight on Hawai"i as leaders from around the world converge on our beautiful islands for the first-ever congress to be held in the United States in the WCC's 65-year history. We welcome this exciting news and look forward to hosting these distinguished leaders as we work toward our shared goal of preserving our environment for generations to come."

Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and the Hawai"i congressional delegation called for federal support for Hawai"i's bid to host the WCC.
