Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06), voted today to enforce new accountability standards for the Department of Veterans Affairs, saying:

"We all share an obligation as grateful beneficiaries of the bravery and sacrifice of our veterans to ensure they have timely access to quality health care. To that end, the White House and Senate ought to work with us to swiftly instate these new accountability measures so that the VA has the tools to help avoid further abhorrent mistreatment of our veterans. However, there's far more we should be doing to ensure that government bureaucracy does not stand in the way of the care these veterans need.

"There is a broader failure of government here where the perspective of the veteran is not being elevated above the prospective of some bureaucratic protocol. We need to be pursuing broader solutions -- like allowing veterans to use their VA benefits at other health facilities. This would be a positive start to helping address our challenges at the VA in a way that actually reflects the very freedom of individual choices these brave men and women fought to protect."
