Kuster Announces Introduction of New Bill to Help Small Businesses Save Tax Dollars

Press Release

Date: May 27, 2014
Location: Concord, NH

This morning, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) visited Taylor Rental in Concord to announce the introduction of her new bill, H.R. 4501, the Small Business Growth and Investment Act, which provides a tax break for small businesses like Taylor. The Congresswoman introduced the bill on the company's behalf, after Taylor Rental President and Owner Mark Dartnell explained how the tax credit would help the company save tax dollars that could then be used for hiring and job creation.

"After hearing from Mark about how this bill would help his company and many others like it save capital, I was pleased to be able to introduce H.R. 4501 in the U.S. House of Representatives," said Congresswoman Annie Kuster. "Small businesses like Taylor are the backbone of our state's economy, and as a member of the House Small Business Committee, I have long fought for tax incentives that will help our local companies succeed. I urge my colleagues to immediately pass this legislation, which will free up thousands of dollars in funds for companies like Taylor to hire more Granite State workers and contribute to our state's economic success."

H.R. 4501 would make permanent a tax credit that makes it easier for companies like Taylor Rental to purchase the equipment they need to build their business by allowing them to immediately deduct the cost of investments in equipment, rather than depreciating these costs over time. This saves companies like Taylor money that can then be used for hiring and job creation.

Despite having bipartisan support, Congress allowed this tax provision to almost completely expire at the end of last year. Congresswoman Kuster introduced H.R. 4501 after hearing from the President and Owner of Taylor Rental, who stressed the importance of the tax provision to the company's success.

"I am thrilled that the Congresswomen made a point to "jump in' and make it happen by working toward making this tax break permanent. This will be a big plus for not only the rental industry but for all New Hampshire small businesses. I thank her for coming by today; her visit was a fantastic start to my week," said Mark Dartnell, President and Owner of Taylor Rental.

As a member of the U.S. House Small Business Committee, Congresswoman Kuster has prioritized job creation and support for New Hampshire's small businesses since taking office. She routinely visits small businesses and economic development projects across the state through her Congress-At-Your-Company series to hear how she can help support their success. Earlier this year, she wrote a Middle Class Jobs and Opportunity Agenda, a blueprint based on meetings with Granite State small business owners, residents, families, and others, that outlines common sense steps to help create jobs in New Hampshire and around the country. The Congresswoman has also hosted a series of career and opportunity fairs, where she matches prospective employers with workers.
