Price on Vote for Lerner Contempt Charge: an "Unfortunate, but Necessary Action"

Press Release

Date: May 7, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06), responded to the vote by the House of Representatives to hold former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress for her refusal to comply with Congress's investigation into the IRS targeting scandal, saying:

"Today, the House of Representatives had to take unfortunate, but necessary, action to hold Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress for her refusal to comply with the investigation into the IRS targeting scandal. She is at the center of the repeated and systemic harassment of conservative organizations and individuals by the Internal Revenue Service. Had Ms. Lerner cooperated with our Constitutional oversight responsibility on behalf of the American people, we would not have been forced to take this action. We expect, and the American people demand, full and truthful answers from this executive branch in these matters. The House will not rest until they are provided."

Congress Tom Price, M.D., is the vice chairman of the House Committee on the Budget. He is also a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, as well as the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. An orthopaedic surgeon, he spent more than 20 years caring for patients in the metro Atlanta area.
