Gardner Leads on Fix to Ensure Southwest Colorado Gets Local Programming

Today in an Energy and Commerce Committee markup, Congressman Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) introduced a bipartisan amendment to further examine why two counties in southwest Colorado do not receive local Colorado TV programming. The amendment passed committee by a voice vote.

"This legislation does two simple things," said Gardner. "It asks for a report with an analysis of which consumers are watching broadcast programming outside their local markets, and it asks for information on whether there are technologically and economically feasible alternatives to the current system in order to provide consumers with more local programming options. Coloradans should be able to view local TV programming, for access to both local news and hometown sports teams. I'm glad Congressman Luján and I could work together to get this amendment passed out of committee. I hope to continue to work with him and Congressman Tipton, who has been a champion on this issue for his constituents in southwest Colorado, to ensure that this legislation passes the House of Representatives and is sent to the Senate."
