Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) released the following statement on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' finalized plan for dredging the Cleveland Harbor and Cuyahoga River which will adhere to the Ohio EPA's Water Quality Certification Permit requiring all dredged material be deposited in the Port of Cleveland's confined disposal facility:
"Today's announcement by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is great news for Cleveland and for the industries that rely on the Cleveland Harbor and the Cuyahoga River," Portman stated. "Depositing dredged material into the combined disposal facilities as opposed to the open lake will provide the environmental and health protections for Lake Erie and the City of Cleveland that I expect and have fought for. I'll continue to work with the Corps, Ohio EPA, and local stakeholders to ensure an acceptable long-term dredging plan is developed and implemented."
