Owens Calls for Renewed Support of Local Businesses

Press Release

Date: March 28, 2014
Location: Plattsburgh, NY

Saturday, March 29 is National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day, marking the important role that small businesses play in local economies across the nation. In January of this year, the U.S. economy added 113,000 payroll jobs. 75,000 of those jobs were at small businesses, with 42,000 at companies with fewer than 20 workers.

"Local businesses are vital to the economy in our region. This day is a great reminder for us to support our friends and neighbors who have created and located businesses in our communities," said Rep. Bill Owens. "These are people that work every day to open shops and keep local economies humming. Support for them means local jobs and economic growth. I encourage each of you to visit a small business in your community today. "

On Saturday, Rep. Owens will be speaking at the North Country Regional Business Plan Competition at SUNY Plattsburgh School of Business and Economics. His speech will address the importance of entrepreneurship in the U.S.
