U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson believes there are valid reasons to keep the local Baldwin Park Veterans' Affairs hospital open.
"As long as we can make it all work, it sure does make sense," Nelson said.
The small VA facility could be shut down when the new VA hospital opens at Lake Nona.
Nelson's office has been given at least three reasons the VA facility should remain open.
For one, the Baldwin Park VA hospital could continue to provide primary care for a lot of Orange County veterans.
It could also provide mental health services that the new hospital may not.
And, they have already moved some benefit offices into the facility to provide "one-stop shopping" for veterans when it comes to primary care and benefits.
