Governor Releases $750,000 for the Palolo Chinese Home

Gov. Neil Abercrombie today announced the release of $750,000 in capital improvement grant funds for the Palolo Chinese Home (PCH) on Oahu.

"Expanding capacity to provide more services to our kupuna is one of the administration's top priorities," Gov. Abercrombie said. "This money will ensure residents of Hawaii's largest Adult Residential Care Home will receive the care they need and deserve."

Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui announced the release of these funds in-person while visiting PCH this morning. "It was a pleasure to deliver the great news on behalf of the Abercrombie Administration to many of the seniors and adults who will benefit from the grant," he said. "PCH has a long history in Hawaii caring for the elderly and indigent and it's important that we support its mission."

Identified by the Legislature, this project includes renovation of the dining room and the care home building, as part of Phase IV of a master plan to build a Progressive Care Complex.

The master plan includes the renovation of the existing care home building and conversion from residential care to expanded rehab services, office for support services, and meeting rooms for staff and families; and expansion by constructing a new building addition that will have 69 skilled nursing beds and increase the campus' capacity to 130 nursing and care home beds.

PCH is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1896. It is a residential, non-medical setting for adult residential care, skilled nursing/intermediate care, adult day care and overnight respite care services.
