Governor Huntsman Announces Public Service Commissioner

Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., today announced Ron Allen as the newly appointed Public Service Commissioner with the Public Service Commission.

"I am honored to be asked to serve as one of three commissioners that have the difficult task of insuring safe, reliable, adequate and reasonable priced utility service," said Allen. "I understand that utility rates can have a major impact on the economy of Utah. Households and businesses seek affordable rates while faced with the need to maintain financially healthy companies. I look forward to the challenges of considering these competing interests with fairness and objectivity."

Allen has been a business owner for thirty years in the areas of sales, consulting and manufacturing. Since 1998 he has been a Utah State Senator and Democratic Whip, serving Salt Lake and Tooele Counties. Allen was also the North Tooele County Fire Chief for nine years. Additionally, Allen is a current member of the Energy and Electric Utilities Standing Committee of the National Conference of State Legislators.

"Ron's experiences in business and public service have provided him with a broad background which will be a valuable asset to the citizens of our state as he serves in this capacity," said Governor Huntsman.
