As part of their conference, they also took the time to honor Senator Baldwin with their "Policymaker of the Year" award for her work on behalf of CTE and her continued support of career and technical education.

"These Senators have earned recognition and appreciation from ACTE's 25,000 members due to their leadership and steadfast commitment to prepare America's 21st century workforce," said ACTE Executive Director LeAnn Wilson.

"In my home state of Wisconsin, we have a long tradition of making strong investments in our schools because we understand that a quality education is at the foundation of building a strong path to the middle class. That's why I have always worked to help build a strong path through career and technical education. Because everyone should have the opportunity to gain the skills they want and need to pursue their dreams."

--- U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin

Tammy believes that making investments in education today will help build a stronger economy, and that is why she is focused on efforts to build and strengthen our "Made in Wisconsin" economy. To help create a "Made in Wisconsin" economy she has advocated for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) studies, as well as efforts to provide access to affordable higher education at our technical colleges and universities. By taking some of these steps we can ensure that our businesses have the skilled workforce they need to compete and grow.

Recent highlights of Tammy's support for Career and Technical Education:

Elementary and Secondary Education Act: She offered an amendment to strengthen career and technical education by ensuring that students and parents get more insight into what CTE programs are available at their local schools to help better prepare students after graduation.

The "GREEN' Act: She recently visited four Wisconsin technical colleges to announce her new legislation -- the Grants for Renewable Energy Education for the Nation, or "GREEN" Act. The legislation allocates competitive grant funding for clean energy career and technical training programs so students are equipped for the high-skilled jobs in clean energy.

Today, Wisconsin is home to 16 technical colleges, and since taking office Tammy has the opportunity to visit of number of these great schools to see their innovative and cutting-edge work first-hand.

Tammy looks forward to continuing the work ahead to build a strong career and technical education system, and is proud of Wisconsin's leadership in helping our students succeed and our country's economy grow.
