Issue Position: Ensuring a Strong Safety Net for our Seniors

Issue Position

I believe we need to protect strengthen and preserve our nation's safety nets, especially those for seniors who have paid their whole working lives into these programs. However, currently the government programs aimed to bolster the safety net are close to failing.

No one can deny the fact that if left as is, both Medicare and Social Security will be bankrupt in a matter of years. Even President Obama's own Treasury Security has reported that he Medicare Trust fund will run out of money in 2024, and Social Security can only sustain full benefit payments another 20 years.

If we sit back and allow these programs to go bankrupt, we won't be able to keep our promise to society's most vulnerable citizens. It`s time that we advance solutions that save and strengthen our entitlement programs for future generations. If we do not act to reform Medicare and Social Security now, we will see an explosion of debt that will cripple our nation, rob our children of a prosperous future, and leave future retirees without benefits.

I support the Republican plan, The Path to Prosperity, which strengthens health and retirement security by taking power away from government bureaucrats and empowering patients instead with control over their own care.

The Path to Prosperity offers bipartisan solutions to preserve the Medicare guarantee, offering guaranteed coverage options to future seniors, regardless of pre-existing conditions or health history, financed by a premium-support payment adjusted to provide additional financial assistance to low-income and less-healthy seniors and less to the wealthy. The Medicare health plans, including a traditional Medicare option, would compete against each other to offer higher quality care at lower costs.
