Press Release

Date: Feb. 14, 2014
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Infrastructure

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) is urging local fire companies to apply for federal grants to help protect firefighters and the public from danger. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is opening the application period for its Fire Prevention and Safety grants.

Fire companies can begin to submit applications on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 and have until March 21, 2014 to complete the process.

FEMA will be awarding more than $32 million in Fire Prevention and Safety grants. The funding comes from the Department of Homeland Security budget for Fiscal Year 2013.

"Federal grant funding is a critical component of how our local fire departments, the majority of which are staffed by dedicated volunteers, fund the purchase of life-saving equipment and development of safety training programs," said Congressman Collins. "I encourage local departments to apply and secure their fair share of federal resources. My office stands ready to assist departments across NY-27 with the application process."
