Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen applauded the Treasury Department's final regulation to ensure that, under the Affordable Care Act, volunteer emergency responders will not be considered full-time employees. Congressman Van Hollen had urged the Department to issue this clarification.

"This announcement provides important clarity and will ensure that towns and cities across the country won't have to eliminate volunteer emergency responder positions," said Congressman Van Hollen. "I'm committed to working with the Administration and my colleagues in Congress to make sure that the Affordable Care Act is implemented in a way that makes sense for families and communities."
