Scott Statement on January Jobs Report

Statement

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement on this morning's jobs report for January 2014:

"Today's jobs report marks the 47th consecutive month of private sector job growth. During this span, our economy has added more than 8.2 million private sector jobs and the unemployment rate has dropped to 6.6 percent. Despite these gains, too many Americans still remain out of work or underemployed. Congress can and must to more to further improve the economy. Raising the federal minimum wage and extending emergency unemployment insurance are two things Congress could do immediately to achieve this goal. Fundamentally, Congress must provide increased long-term and sustained direct investments in education, job training, domestic manufacturing, research and development, and our crumbling infrastructure to cement our recovery and move towards full employment. I hope my Republican colleagues in Congress will work with the President and Democrats to accelerate our economic growth."
