Johnson Responds to Administrations Possible Insurance Extension

Senator Johnson responds to the Obama administration's possible plan to extend insurance:

"If the president really does want to change the law to let people keep their individual insurance policies, he should work through Congress -- the branch of government that writes laws under our Constitution. There is a bill that does exactly what the president wants. It lets policyholders keep their coverage that they chose and found satisfactory before the Affordable Care Act upset the market. That bill has been introduced and is ready to be passed by Congress just as soon as President Obama tells his Democrat allies controlling the Senate to agree to it.

"That bill is the If You Like Your Health Plan You Can Keep It Act (S.1617). It is a true grandfather clause. The Affordable Care Act's grandfather clause was completely phony -- a massive consumer fraud. That's why millions of people have lost the plans they wanted to keep. The If You Like Your Health Plan You Can Keep It Act, which I wrote and which is cosponsored by 42 of my Senate colleagues, will work where the Affordable Care Act failed.

"If President Obama is sincere in wanting to work with Congress, he should start doing so. Taking up a bill that does just what he proposes would be a good place to start."
