Rep. Culberson Responds to State of the Union Address

Statement

Date: Jan. 28, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, DC--Rep. John Culberson (TX-7) offered the following comments after President Obama's 2014 State of the Union Address:

"Tonight we heard more of the same from President Obama--calls for more spending and for more executive orders. More intrusion from the federal government is not what our states and my constituents need. The President forgets that the House controls the power of the purse, so I will lead the effort on the Appropriations Committee to defund President Obama's illegal czars and his unconstitutional executive orders.

"Texans know that government programs cannot be the basis of a strong economy. Houstonians know how to grow the economy: low taxes, smart and limited regulations, and robust American energy production are the keys to our booming city. If President Obama was serious about creating jobs, he would approve the Keystone XL pipeline today and unleash America's energy producers so that they can make our nation energy independent."
