Location: Washington, DC

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-CA) and Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) released the following joint statement today about the passing of former Congressman Ben Blaz:

"We were saddened to learn of the passing of former Congressman Ben Blaz. Congressman Blaz served our nation with distinction. As a retired Brigadier General in the U.S. Marine Corps, Congressman Blaz understood the challenges facing our Armed Forces and brought a valuable perspective to the House. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, he was a strong supporter of efforts to improve care for servicemembers. He also worked to advance issues to improve our military's command structure, including the passage of the Goldwater-Nicholas Act. We send our thoughts and prayers to Congressman Blaz's family and the people of Guam during this difficult time. His service to our nation will not be forgotten."
