WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Tonight, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) released the following statement regarding President Obama's State of the Union address:

"I commend our President for identifying the greatest challenges facing our nation and proposing meaningful solutions that will move our country forward. If we work together and unite under the belief in opportunity for all, then we can make this a year of action. It is what the American people want: for us to work together on their behalf.

"We should extend unemployment benefits for 1.6 million struggling Americans, including more than 20,000 Nevadans. We must raise the federal minimum wage to an actual, living wage of $10.10 by 2016. It is imperative that we pass comprehensive immigration reform to secure our borders, create a pathway to citizenship, and give a much needed boost to our economy.

"During our country's recovery from the recession, corporate profits skyrocketed and middle-class families and the working poor are now struggling to keep up. We need to ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to move up the economic ladder if they work hard enough; we must protect the American dream."
