Rep. Kelly Statement on Bipartisan Budget Act

Statement

Date: Dec. 13, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement yesterday evening in support of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013. Further details about the agreement can be found here. The House of Representatives passed the legislation by 332-94.

"During my short time serving in Congress, I am glad to have witnessed our fiscal focus shift from how much to spend to how much to cut. While today's bill did not include everything I want, it does move the debate in the right direction. This agreement reduces the deficit by $23 billion, it includes concrete cost-saving measures such as pension reform, and it does so without raising any taxes on anyone. Most importantly, this agreement takes the power of the purse out of the hands of President Obama -- which is where every continuing resolution has put it -- and back into the hands of the House where it belongs. These are important accomplishments that cannot be overlooked. With this agreement in place, I look forward to carrying on the fight for serious debt and deficit reduction in the new year and making sure the fiscal debate in Washington keeps moving in the proper direction."
