Today Rep. Henry A. Waxman joined with Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, labor leader Maria Elena Durazo, Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, LA Chamber of Commerce Chairman Alan Rothenberg, and others leaders from Los Angeles's faith, civic, and business communities, to announce a 24-hour fast in solidarity with the growing national effort calling on the House Republican leadership to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

"We cannot allow the House Republican leadership to block comprehensive immigration reform," said Rep. Henry A. Waxman. "I hope that our fast will move Speaker Boehner to bring up this legislation in the next few weeks, before Congress adjourns for the holidays. Our immigrant community and our country deserve no less."
