White House Heeds Udall's Call to Use Colorado as a Guide, Improve Shopping Function on HealthCare.gov

Statement

Date: Dec. 3, 2013

Mark Udall welcomed the addition of enhanced browsing features to HealthCare.gov and said the retooled window shopping function should allow consumers to quickly compare insurance options before applying for coverage. Udall has pressed the Administration to adopt some of the successful features of Colorado's online health insurance exchange, including the window shopping capability.

"Finding the health insurance plan that is best for your family should be as straightforward as possible. While Coloradans have had the ability to compare insurance options before applying for coverage since our state's marketplace launched, consumers applying via the federal website have faced many roadblocks," Udall said. "That's why I asked the White House to consider adding some of Connect for Health Colorado's best features to the federal site, and I'm glad to see that they've heeded my call. Like Coloradans, visitors to HealthCare.gov can now use a vastly improved window shopping function, allowing consumers to preview their health plan options before beginning the application process."

Udall urged the Administration to adopt Colorado's browsing feature in a letter to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Marilyn Tavenner last month. He also pressed the White House to ensure that the HealthCare.gov website can keep consumers' personal information secure.
