Johanns: Obamacare Enrollment Numbers Speak for Themselves

U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services acknowledged that only 106,185 Americans were able to register for Obamacare in the first month of enrollment, falling far short of HHS's expectation of 500,000. Insurance plans for more than 4.2 million Americans have been cancelled because of Obamacare.

"These numbers show just how unworkable this law is," Johanns said. "Even after spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a website and trillions on the entire law before all is said and done, Americans still are not able to enroll in affordable health care coverage. The Administration might blame so-called technical glitches for the low enrollment numbers, but Nebraskans know the real reason is because Americans do not want this law or the higher costs that come with it.

"More people have been forced out of the health care coverage they liked than have signed up for Obamacare. Talk about broken promises."

In Nebraska, just 338 individuals have signed up for health care plans offered through Obamacare. Meanwhile, more than one thousand Nebraskans have contacted Johanns about Obamacare, the vast majority of whom relayed information about increased premiums and cancelled plans.

Johanns is a cosponsor of legislation requiring HHS to provide information about the rollout of the Obamacare exchanges. He is also sponsoring legislation delaying and repealing the law's individual mandate as well as legislation fully repealing the law.
