Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) made the following statement after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved a disaster recovery plan that will provide $7,464,000 to help Shelby County recover from the severe storms and flooding that wrought havoc on the region in May of 2011:

"Our community sustained terrible damage in the severe storms of 2011, and many Memphians still need help rebuilding their lives," said Congressman Cohen. "The millions of dollars in disaster relief funding approved today will go a long way towards helping our city and the rest of Shelby County recover from the natural disasters we experienced."

The recovery plan approved today is funded through HUD's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. The Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013, which was passed with Congressman Cohen's vote in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, included $16 billion in CDBG-Disaster Recovery funding.
