Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Mike Michaud praised the City of Boston for continuing to do business with Falcon Performance Footwear in Auburn, Maine. Yesterday, Michaud visited the company with Roderick J. Fraser Jr., Commissioner of the Boston Fire Department. Two years ago, Boston purchased 1,625 pairs of boots for its firefighters through a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG). They have since agreed to continue purchasing the Maine-made fire boots due to their excellent performance.

"I know Commissioner Fraser is impressed with the quality of the product and the fact that it's made in Maine," said Rep. Michaud. "Falcon is clearly dedicated to local production and sourcing, and it's critical that our nation does everything it can to encourage this type of manufacturing. It supports local jobs and it maximizes the positive economic impact on our state. I applaud the City of Boston for supporting innovative businesses like Falcon Performance Footwear."

Falcon Performance Footwear is a sister company of Globe Manufacturing Company headquartered in Pittsfield, New Hampshire, which is the oldest and largest manufacturer of structural firesuits in the world. Its footwear product line is already made in the United States. Some of their product's components are also sourced domestically, such as those for the boots they sell to the military. With recent sourcing changes, including new agreements with other Maine manufacturers, in a few months all Falcon products will be made in the USA from domestically sourced components.

"I along with my fellow employees are so proud to be making footwear for Globe Manufacturing Company and even prouder knowing that our footwear is protecting Boston firefighters," said Roland Landry, co-owner of Falcon Performance Footwear.

"Without the Assistance to Firefighters Grant, we would not have been able to make this important purchase. We appreciate Representative Michaud's commitment to public safety and to the AFG program. All of our firefighters are proud to wear protective gear that is made in America and particularly from right here in New England," said Commissioner Fraser.
