Kuster Questions VA Secretary on Impacts of Shutdown on Veterans

Press Release

Date: Oct. 9, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), a member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, questioned Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Eric Shinseki about how the government shutdown is impacting services and benefits that our veterans and service members count on. Specifically, Kuster asked Secretary Shinseki how the lapse in government funding will directly impact New Hampshire veterans' earned benefits, and how many would see a delay in their compensation, pension, education, and vocational rehabilitation benefits if the funding is not fully restored before November 1.

"It's absolutely unacceptable that veterans who courageously served our country are now paying the price for gridlock in Washington," Kuster said. "Congress needs to stop playing political games, end the shutdown immediately, and restore the services that veterans and other Americans count on."
