Ros-Lehtinen Votes in Favor of the Food and Drug Safety Act

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a senior member of Florida's congressional delegation, voted in favor of H.J.Res. 77, titled the Food and Drug Safety Act, today. This act will allow the continued operation of the Food and Drug Administration during the government shutdown until the passage of another Continuing Resolution or until December 15, 2013.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "I am pleased to vote for this important piece of legislation. Ensuring America's food and medical supply are safe is of paramount importance and is a task vital to every American's daily life. We should make sure this necessary function is carried out despite the government shutdown as some matters transcend partisan gridlock."

Note: The Food and Drug Safety Act would provide funding until the passage of another Continuing Resolution or December 15, 2013. The Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) core functions include: overseeing medical products and tobacco, foods and veterinary medicine, global regulatory operations and policy, and operations. During the government shutdown, Ros-Lehtinen has voted for the Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act (H.R. 3223), Nutrition Assistance for Low-Income Women and Children Act (H.J. Res. 75), National Emergency and Disaster Recovery Act (H.J. Res 85), Honoring Our Promise to America's Veterans Act (H.J. Res. 72), Pay Our Guard and Reserve Act (H.R. 3230), Research for Lifesaving Cures Act (H.J. Res. 73), Open Our Nation's Parks and Museums Act (H.J. Res. 70), Provide Local Funding for the District of Columbia Act (H.J. Res. 71), and two Continuing Resolutions (H.J.Res. 59; H.Res. 368).
