Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after Secretary of State John Kerry signed the controversial United Nations Arms Trade Treaty earlier today in New York City:

"Today, Secretary of State Kerry signed a controversial U.N treaty on arms regulations. I am concerned this treaty will serve as a vehicle infringing upon individual rights protected by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. This week I will join with colleagues in the House of Representatives and write to President Obama expressing strong opposition to his Administration's decision to sign this treaty. It has too many unaddressed concerns and ambiguities while being fundamentally flawed. I now stand in opposition to Senate ratification of this treaty."
