Rep. Miller Statement on U.N. Security Council's Adoption of Syrian Weapons Plan

Statement

Date: Sept. 28, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following statement commending the United Nations' Security Council's unanimous vote to secure and destroy Syria's chemical weapons stockpile. Miller said:

"I commend the U.N. Security Council on passing the resolution to locate and destroy Syria's chemical weapons. This type of diplomatic cooperation was the only way to make certain that Syria's chemical weapons are located and taken out of the hands of the Assad regime. A military solution further risked the chance of Hezbollah and al Qaeda gaining access to these weapons if the Assad regime were to collapse, leading to further chaos within the entire region. Now we look towards the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to begin their inspection and location of Syria's weapons, with the expedited goal of eliminating these chemical weapons by mid-2014."
