Bachmann Statement on Government Slowdown

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) released the following statement today in response to President Obama and Senator Reid forcing a government slowdown after refusing to negotiate with House Republicans.

"As the implementation of Obamacare comes into effect, the American people are worried and uncertain about the future of their healthcare coverage. Every day my office is flooded with phone calls, emails, Facebook posts and tweets from Americans who are deeply concerned about the negative impact of Obamacare on their families, their jobs, their healthcare, and their small businesses.

"These are individuals, like a 55-year old woman in my district who I just heard from this morning, who are being laid off because their employers can't afford to pay for their health insurance. Mothers and fathers who have to decide between paying for health insurance and selling their home because they can no longer pay their bills. And Americans who are learning that even if they liked their insurance--they may not be able to keep it. Each passing day we learn new stories about how Obamacare is hurting hardworking American families, costing us much-needed jobs, and slowing down economic growth.

"How can I in good conscience not continue fighting to protect these families from Obamacare's disastrous consequences?

"I was proud to vote for two separate bills that fully fund the entire government, except for Obamacare. And I'm glad we were able, at the very least, to agree that our men and women in the military should continue to receive their pay.

"We've seen President Obama unilaterally grant Obamacare waivers to his allies and a one year exemption to big businesses. Rather than giving special deals to political insiders, every American should get equal treatment. It is only fair that the American people also receive the same one year delay from the harmful impact of the Obamacare train wreck.

"It's time for President Obama and Senator Reid to actually come to the negotiating table and put an end to their government slowdown."
