Kaine, Warner Announce Investment in Middle Peninsula Broadband Development

U.S. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner today announced that the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission in Middlesex County has been awarded $58,000 from the U.S. Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration to help establish a wireless broadband development plan for the Middle Peninsula.

The investment will support the creation of a framework, process and strategy for developing a wireless broadband network that would expand high-speed internet access in the region. The funds will support a study to determine the best practices for developing a broadband network that supports private capital investment and job creation in the region.

"Since the time I served as Governor, I have championed access to broadband as a key tool for strengthening educational opportunity and economic competitiveness," Sen. Warner said. "This grant will help communities across the Middle Peninsula work together to explore ways they can get access to broadband technology to help bring new jobs, innovation, and economic growth."

"This investment in broadband development will help create local jobs, attract businesses to the Middle Peninsula, and enhance the region's overall economic competitiveness," said Kaine. "I was proud to make investments in infrastructure a priority as governor and I will continue to support projects that create jobs immediately and raise our platform for long-term economic success."
