Flores Votes to Keep Federal Government Funded

Statement

Date: Sept. 30, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a continuing resolution (CR) that will keep the federal government funded, delay Obamacare's individual mandate and cancel health insurance subsidies for members of Congress, the president and executive branch political appointees. Following passage of this CR, Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement:

"As the Senate continues to ignore the will of the American people, the House has now once again passed a CR to keep the federal government running. This resolution creates fairness for all Americans by including measures that delay the individual mandate for one year and make certain that lawmakers are not exempt from Obamacare. President Obama has already delayed the implementation of the employer mandate. It is time to level the playing field and provide relief for businesses, families and individuals alike. Additionally, I have long felt that Congress should live under the laws it passes. This CR will cancel the OPM's unlawful health insurance subsides for Members of Congress, the president, vice president and political appointees. They should not be treated any differently than the rest of America and they should be required to live under Obamacare if any other American is required to do so.

"It is time that the Senate accept this House-passed CR that provides fairness to all Americans and keeps the government funded. If the Senate once again fails to pass this common sense resolution, they will be they will be responsible for shutting down the federal government and ignoring the will of the American people."
