Chambliss Opening Remarks at Open Senate Intelligence Committee Hearing

Statement

The Senate Intelligence Committee held an open hearing on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and the NSA phone records program. The committee is making very good progress on a bill that makes reasonable changes for more transparency to FISA and the NSA phone records program. It is important that the intelligence community has the opportunity to explain to the American people more fully in public how essential this program is to keeping this country safe and how the privacy of all Americans is being protected. We share the goal of maintaining the same level of effectiveness and flexibility for the intelligence community while recognizing the privacy concerns about this collection.
