Governor Issues Statement on School Finance Supreme Court Ruling

"Our state's heritage of strong public schools and a deep commitment to quality education define who we are today as Kansans. The question before the Legislature is how strong schools and a commitment to quality education will continue to define us as Kansans in the future.

"The Supreme Court has ruled that the Legislature must act now to live up to its constitutional obligation to provide suitable funding for high-quality public schools for every Kansas child. They have been given 100 days to meet their obligation, and I urge them to do so thoughtfully, carefully, and expeditiously for the sake of our children, our economy and future prosperity. Continued uncertainty puts our schools at risk and harms our economy.

"As I have in the past, I will extend every assistance available from my administration to help the Legislature in their deliberations and decision-making on this most important issue. Clearly, the time to act is now."
