Congressman Ruben Hinojosa Announces Nearly $1 Million Federal Grant Awarded to McAllen Miller International Airport

Today-Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX-15) announced that the McAllen Miller International Airport was awarded a grant of $890,000 by the U.S. Department of Transportation for safety improvements.

The funding will be used to improve runway safety areas to meet current design standards. The grant will also fund the replacement of 5,429 feet of the airport perimeter fence to deter unauthorized persons and vehicles from entering onto the airfield.

"McAllen Miller International Airport continues to grow and prosper to keep up with the increasing demand for international travel in our region," said U.S. Rep. Hinojosa. "I am very pleased to see our airport continue to receive federal grant awards for the improvement of safety and expansion. Congratulations to McAllen airport Director Phil Brown and his team and our McAllen City leaders."

The funds will also be used to provide Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Vehicle strut replacement.
