No Subsidies Without Verification

Statement

Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2775, the No Subsidies Without Verification Act:

"Earlier this summer, the Obama Administration announced that the government would no longer verify that individuals applying for federal subsidies for health insurance exchanges are actually eligible to receive them. In doing this, the Administration basically announced a free for all for fraudsters--all anyone has to do now is claim eligibility and they can receive a taxpayer-funded Obamacare subsidy. This opens the government to potentially dishing out $250 billion in improper payments to both fraudsters and well-meaning Americans alike.

"The Obama Administration's haphazard and confused implementation of their own health care law is putting Americans and their taxpayer dollars at risk. Today, the House passed a common-sense bill that requires the government to verify an individual's eligibility before they receive a subsidy. This follows the House's step last month to provide relief for all Americans by delaying both the employer and individual mandate to obtain insurance. There is no reason why the Obama Administration should give big business a reprieve from an unworkable law while individuals still face the law's full impact. We will continue to protect the American people from the most confusing, unfair and costly aspects of Obamacare and work towards a patient-centered, market-based system."
