Friends,

My priority as a public servant has always been and will always be job creation. A healthy and competitive economy creates jobs, keeps crime low, and leads to an overall better quality of life.

In order to attract more jobs and new business to our District we must work together to maintain a competitive economy. Last week, I held an Economic Development Resources Forum at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology so Seventh District economic developers and community leaders could collaborate.

The forum examined ways business owners and entrepreneurs can work together to attract new businesses to the area. Emphasis Areas, led by the University of South Carolina's Office of Economic Engagement, focused on entrepreneurship and the local resources available to our community's job creators.

In Case You Missed It:

Morning News: Collaboration needed for job growth, says Rep. Rice

It was great to see our community leaders come together and focus on jobs. We have collaboration at the local and state levels, but this effort has not yet been duplicated at the national level. I intend to fix this and hope to hold more forums that bring federal attention to our area.

U.S. Military Action in Syria

I have received hundreds of calls and emails regarding possible military action in response to the utilization of poison gas in Syria. Based on this feedback, my constituents by a large margin oppose military action, at this time. When I return to Washington next week I will listen to the President's argument for a military response. Before I will support any U.S. intervention, the President must make a clear case to the American people and Congress as to the specifics of the chemical attack, those responsible, and the strategy for any retaliation. The Senate is expected to vote on the measure this week which the House of Representatives must also approve before authorization is granted to the President. If you would like to express your opinion on this issue please email me, leave a comment on my Facebook page, or call one of my offices.

Have a good week
