Dalrymple Proclaims September 11 Patriot Day, Directs Flags to Fly at Half-Staff

In accordance with a presidential proclamation, Gov. Jack Dalrymple has declared September 11 Patriot Day and a Day of Service and Remembrance in the state to mark the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks carried out against this nation on September 11, 2001.

Dalrymple is directing all state government agencies to fly the American and North Dakota flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, September 11. He is encouraging North Dakotans to display the flags at half-staff at their homes and to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies, activities and remembrance services to honor the innocent lives lost and those who protect and defend our way of life. The Governor is also encouraging citizens to observe a national moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time to honor those who perished on that fateful day.

"As we mark the anniversary of this solemn and defining moment in our nation's history, we remember the thousands of innocent lives lost, we extend our thoughts and prayers to their families, and we honor the men and women who risked and sacrificed their lives so others might survive," Dalrymple said. "On this day and every day, we recognize our brave men and women in uniform and all of our veterans, the dedicated members of our public safety, law enforcement and intelligence communities, and the thousands of others who work night and day to protect us from harm and preserve the freedom of this great nation."
