If Secretary Kerry Believes The Four State Department Employees Who Were Suspended With Pay Bear No Responsibility For Benghazi, Then Who In State Should Be Held Accountable, Asks Ros-Lehtinen

U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, made the following statement regarding the recent decision by Secretary Kerry to reinstate the only individuals who had been held accountable for the State Department's failures in Benghazi that ultimately led to the deaths of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

"By reinstating these four individuals, Secretary Kerry is absolving them of all responsibility for the lack of security and leadership in Benghazi that ultimately resulted in the deaths of four brave Americans by terrorists. If these four individuals are not at least partly responsible for the tragic events in Benghazi last year, then who at State is, and why has no one been held accountable?

"Secretary Kerry is continuing to reshuffle the deck chairs, like his predecessor Secretary Clinton, in an effort to avoid highlighting State's lack of accountability for the events that transpired before, during, and after the Benghazi terrorist attack - and their tragic results. The Administration's handling of this situation has been unconscionable. The only way we can take steps to prevent attacks like this from happening again is to learn from our mistakes, improve our oversight, hold people accountable, and stop trying to sweep this terrorist attack under the rug. Our ambassador and those serving our country bravely overseas deserve better."
