Location: Turlock, CA

U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) was today presented with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's "Spirit of Enterprise" Award in a ceremony hosted by the Turlock Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes Rep. Denham's work supporting American workers and businesses through policies that encourage private sector investment and growth. Dick Castner, western regional director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, led today's ceremony. 2013 is the third year running during which Rep. Denham has received this prestigious award.

"As a business owner, I understand the harsh realities that our nation's job creators often face," said Rep. Denham. "In tough economic times, supporting those who seek to create jobs is a top priority. I am honored to receive the "Spirit of Enterprise' award and will continue working every day to help businesses in the Central Valley grow and expand."

"Last year, on the issues that mattered most to businesses of all sizes and types across the country, Congressman Denham voted for growth and economic opportunity repeatedly, earning a 92 percent record from the Chamber," said Castner. "He clearly deserves this award."

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce's policy priorities for 2013 include producing more American energy, expanding American trade, modernizing our regulatory system, reforming immigration and visa policies and addressing the fiscal crisis with a bold plan that slows the growth of spending, reforms entitlements and overhauls our tax code.

As a member of the House Energy Action Team, Rep. Denham has worked to increase American energy production through an all-of-the-above energy strategy.

Rep. Denham has supported legislation to make the United States more globally competitive through expanding free trade, including the 2013 Farm Bill, which provides funding for the nation's agricultural export programs.

He has repeatedly voted to reign in federal bureaucracy and red tape in the form of unnecessary regulations, including his vote in May of 2013 in favor of the SEC Regulatory Accountability Act, which would make it possible for small businesses to succeed by preventing unnecessary and burdensome regulations to stunt economic growth and hamper their abilities to create jobs.

Rep. Denham has supported a top-to-bottom immigration reform strategy that would strengthen the nation's guest worker programs, ensuring that California's agricultural economy continues to produce food to feed communities across the country.

Lastly, Rep. Denham has worked to slow the growth of spending and eliminate government waste. He introduced the Civilian Property Realignment Act (CPRA), which streamlines the process for selling unneeded or underutilized federal properties across the country. CPRA calls for a common-sense approach to end wasteful spending and inefficiency in management of underutilized federally-owned buildings.
